Hey there everyone. Wow, it has been awhile. Lot going on in life with the holidays, end of year, oh, and change.
I made a decision to leave Microsoft after connecting with an Amazon recruiting friend who has been there for about 2.5 years. Funny thing is, I interviewed him for a position while I was at atlas, a division of aQuantive and ended up hiring someone more senior. He still talks to me - thanks Jay!
So I had a phone conversation with a recruiting manager I know from the industry and then a recruiting director there whom I know from the .com days. Both good guys who have had solid careers at Amazon and enjoy it.
From there we go to the formal interview (aka "the loop"). I met with several people (yes several) and the interview went well. Everyone had good questions for me and were, IMO, very open about experience and thoughts on Amazon...both good and bad. It was great to hear what's great about the place as well as where "we" can improve.
I met with people from a couple different businesses because of the growth they are experiencing and they not only wanted to gauge where I might fit best, but also give me an opportunity to look at other groups.
My recruiter followed up with me, shared feedback and made me an offer. And here I sit today, an Amazonian in my first week! I will keep this entry short but wanted to give a quick update on my experience and what's new.
If you have interviewed with Amazon, whether you ended up joining or not, drop me a mail and let me know what you think...good and bad. There are always room to grow in both areas.
You will see more about my Amazon.com recruiting adventure and hear about our hiring efforts. Feel free to connect with me with any questions and interest.
