Good Morning. In checking out some sports highlights this morning I came across this article. I’m more of a college football fan than basketball, but a write up like this will catch you eye.
I jab my Mormon and Utah friends for various things, mainly because I am a heathen, a complete smart ass and I love to rib them. But you read something like this and I have to be honest, you have to respect what the school has put in place and that they actually hold you accountable.
Whether you buy in to it or not, again I say, you have to respect it….or you don’t, whatever. They are very clear about it up front, go through quite the process before you become a student, and enforce it.
I grew up watching Danny Ainge play pro ball (more the Celts than just DA himself) and like his quote from the article: "I think it's a great code of conduct," said Ainge, whose children have also attended BYU. "It teaches discipline, teaches kids to not live in a world of instant gratification. It's a different culture — and I love that culture."
I hate to see Davies expelled or something crazy like that, but he should be disciplined for agreeing/signing the contract and then not honoring it. At the same time, he does deserve the opportunity to receive a good education.
Instant gratification - that’s what today is all about, what society has instilled as the norm and what seems to get stronger with every generation. Yeah, it’s annoying. Time for my double tall extra hot mocha.
Have a great weekend everyone.
